Upgrade Problems

Hi all

My friend has just upgraded their machine with a new mobo bundle from Novatech. (AMD 64 3000+ CPU, 512DDR 3200Mhz and mobo reference NF3250K8AA-ERS )We have installed it in the old case and attached all his old (and working) hardware (HDD gfx card etc) to it and we went to reformat and install Windows on the machine.

This is where the problem starts, the machine boots up fine, we have put the XP (Pro and offical disk) in to the CD drive and it boots from it. But after it has loaded all the files and gets to which location you want to install XP on. At this point the machine turns off compleately without warning.

We have checked everything, connections etc and we cant see anything wrong with it so we are totally stumped

Any ideas would be welcomed

Thanks

Mark

1. Overheating CPU

2. driver conflict
Does this HDD have a working version of XP on it the drivers for the old board may be conficting with the new board

Hi

1. Overheating CPU

While it could be this I do not think so as this was one of the pre built and tested mobo bundles, the CPU heat synk and ram were all pre installed and tested. And the error happens within about 30 seconds of booting the machine.

2. Driver Conflict

This one might be it, but I thought as we were in the boot still it shouldnt effect. But if this is the case do you know any way we can over come it, we cant get so far as to reformat the HDD to fix the problem that way and I dont know of other methods (short of hammers and magnits) to remove the information from a HDD

Thanks for your help

Mark

Is it always at exactly the same point during installation or is it after a certain period of time. If the latter could it be a heat problem? Is the CPU fan connected up and running? Have you spoken to/emailed Novatech Tech Support.
There's an 0870 number on their web site but below is an entry from Say No to 0870 which should suffice and will be much cheaper.

Hi

No we have not spoken to the Novatech team as yet, we were going to do that tomorrow if we were not able to reslove the issue tonight.

In answer to your other question it is always at the same point, just as the screen loads to show which partition to load on to the machine turns off. This has happened twice at this exact point, we dont want do it many more times for the reason we are not sure something isnt wrong and it might be getting worse repeating it

Thanks

Mark
