Upgrade options

I have a 4 year old evesham with asus a7v333 m/b (rev 1.01) with 1.53 (1800+) cpu and nvidia graphics card ti500. I don;t know what powewre supply this comes with

I want to tinker and improve graphics performance (gaming). Can anyone suggest good options:

1) max cpu with m/b and graphics card;
2) upgrade m/b, cpu and graphics card
3) or anything else

I am minded to reuse old bits when rebuilding a another computer.

Your board will take up to an AMD 2600xp.

The nvidia is a decent card and can be brought quite cheaply on the second hand market, in my old computer I ran Doom3 on medium settings with one of those cards.
Forgot to say stay away from the barton core as people have had problems with them and your mobo.

Alan thanks for your help. I don;t know if you or anyone else could confirm that these options make sense and would provide a significant increase in performance:

Option 1) For £53 I could get the Sempron 2600 1.8Ghz Socket A 256KB 333Mhz Boxed

Question: Does the a7v333 m/b have to have a socket A processor?

Option 2) For £62 I could get the A8V Deluxe Socket 939 Athlon 64 Motherboard and £97 would get me ATHLON 64 3000+ 1.8GHZ S939 512KB FSB1000 Venice.

Question: I know the 2600 and the 3000 are rough intel equivalents, but why are both above chips rated as 1.8ghz when they show 2600 and 3000 respectively? Presumably new m/b and chip would give me future upgrade options.
