Updating from Service pack 1 to Service Pack 2

I have just updated my machine to run service pack 2. However, having spent a couple of hours on the microsoft web site donwloading various files I am now unable to access windows explorer, my computer, my documents etc. abd keep getting the message

'The instruction at '0x02d8e065' referenced at '0x00000000'. The memory could not be written'.

All programmes loaded on the machine work fine and I can open documents once the programme has been activated.

Please does anyone out there have have any suggestions as to how I can correct this.

Try doing a system restore, then adding the updates using the 'Express Install (recommended)' option.
Do you have automatic updates turned on?

thanks for your advise. I have managed to restore my machine but are now a little reluctant to try again installing SP2 again.

Almost all problems with installing SP2 are caused by errors and/or faults in the system you are trying to update - either corrupt files or malware.
