Why do you want to do this?

A word of warning - if you don't know what you are doing and do not follow the correct procedure to the letter you can end up with a dead 'puter.

I have an Athlon 1600XP processor but wish to upgrade it to an 2400 or 2600 Athlon XP, I have been told I need to update my BIOS on this mobo to do so

VoG™ is dead right as usual. Not a procedure to be undertaken lightly.

Only consider messing about with the BIOS if it is absolutely essential and your computer won't work without you updating because if it fails you can then be almost certain you computer will not work.

With such a large upgrade (1600 -> 2600) you would be best getting a new system so you can take advantage of all the other speed/technology improvements that these CPUs offer.

You say you use Windows XP are you using Fat32 or NTFS,as you have to flash your bios differently for each one.

Thanks for all your responses.

I use NTFS on XP. My pc is already quite upto date with 512MB DDR memory, 80GB HD. I just wanted to upgrade the processor to 2400XP Athlon from my 1600XP Athlon

PLEASE BE AWARE, IF THIS GOES WRONG YOU MAY END UP WITH ONE USELESS MOTHERBOARD.

the update however is quite simple,

you need to download the required bios file (k7s5a020809.exe)and also the (aminfxxx.exe)
once downloaded, copy both the files to a floppy disk, you then need to read the instuctions carefully, i cant remember exactly but i think it is just booting with a start-up disk to a dos prompt then putting the bios disk in and typing the flash utility name in, then its automatic( i think)
READ THE INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY

I JUST READ YOUR LAST RESPONSE, PLEASE CHECK THE FILES AGAIN ON THE WEB SITE.....

IT DOESNT SEEM TO SPECIFY WHETHER IT IS FOR NTFS OR FAT32 MAYBE IT DOESNT MATTER, BUT CHECK ANYWAY
