Updating Graphic card

Could anybody help me please. I am thinking of upgrading my graphic card which at the moment is a Matrox G200 8MB AGP to one that has a higher memory a Sapphire Radeon 7000 64MB 4x. I am not sure if my mother board will handle a Graphic card that as 4x interface. The mother board is a ASUS P2B Intel 440BX AGPset.

Thankyou for any help.

hi duke2

If i am not mistaken 4x and 8x graphics cards are backwards compatible so what will happen is you won't receive the complete benefits and features from the card.

i am sure others will comment

I have an 8x card and it is working at 4x as that is all my mboard can handle. It would slso work on a 2x mboard.

The problem is not number but volts as the old AGP was I think 3.3 volts the new one is 1.6 volts

If you have an old BX board it will be 3.3 and it will blow the new card if it's only 1.6

Look here and you will see that the ATi 7000 board will run with 3.3 or 1.5v interfaces
