updated windows XP : DVD Rom won't install

  El Cavaliero! 21:44 24 Aug 04

Just installed 41 updates for XP professional (!)Went to play a DVD and neither were installed correctly according to device manager. Uninstalled both DVD burner and DVD rom & re-booted.Burner installed fine first time (Pioneer DVR 106) but ROM (Pioneer 120s)refuses to install after at least ten attempts. According to device manager : " Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
As far as I am aware you don't need a driver, but the ones picked up and used by XP are as follows :C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\cdrom.sys along with imapi.sys, redbook.sys and storprop.dll.
Tried to roll-back to previous driver but told me that none was saved.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreeciated.
