Update Drivers In Device Manager

Has anyone ever used the update drivers function in device manager? Does this mean that windows will connect to the internet to look for new drivers or are you supposed to have a CD ready? I have all Windows updates installed (including optional ones) and everything works fine, but I just wondered if it would have any advantages like making my system faster?

Thanks in advance

None at all, can't remember the last time i updated a driver, if you keep your PC optomised by good housekeeping and it runs how you want it to leave it alone.
If you feel the need to make a little faster adding more memory may be the way to go..

I have just updated all software anyway (what a nightmare!!) and just about to start my antispyware/antivirus scans so I just wondered if it was worthwhile. I almost lost the will to live deleting unecessary shortcuts from my start menu (I'm very fussy!) but the finish of my housekeeping is in sight! Speed is fine (very good for a 5 year old AMD Athlon anyway!) but thanks for the advice.
