A few weeks ago a toolbar has appeared in IE that links to online casino, dating, computers, credit etc.. and I think it encourages pop ups as we browse the net. Cant get rid, Ive tried spybot and xcleaner as suggested in the archive and also removing IE but to no avail. Also similar links have been added to my favourites which I cant delete. I think it may be spyware or linked to MSN (my kids use msn all the time). My ISP is tesco.net and I have XP Pro. Anyone have ideas how to get rid?

thanks in advance

I suspect they have installed Messenger Plus....this can install a search bar and other adware if you don't say no to the sponsor programs at installation.click here will tell you how to remove the sponsor adware.

If all else fails use System Restore back to a time before you got the offending toolbar.

iamalipaul, do have a firewall and a virus program, if not get some downloaded asap. Then try cleaning up your computer try using ad-ware or ultra wincleaner. You have XP Pro try using its own firewall settings. You may also like to try searching for the program using (Search) on the start menu just type in the name and see if anything shows up.

lop is the sponsor of Messenger 3+ and that is the most common way of picking up the unwanted toolbar you have....if that has been on the system and removed the spyware/toolbar from lop will have been left on the pc.

Spybot S&D click here should be able to remove lop but have a look at these removal instructions first click here

If you don't have this on your system yet click here then I strongly recommend you get it.MS Antispyware is practically as good as it gets in terms of spyware protection.
