Unwanted Text using EPSON 800 Printer

A friend of mine has an ageing EPSON Colour 800 Stylus printer.
On every page that prints out there appears a block of uppercase letters ( usually 4 or 5 ) in a small font - (about 8pt.)in the top left hand corner of the page.
I have helped him go through the maintenance procedures to no avail.
As he only uses the machine for letters and club newsletters he only fits a B/W cartridge.
Any suggestions or advice will be much appreciated.

Try printing from another prog, ie not the one used for doing newsletters.
If this removes the letters open the newsletter prog and check for 'headers' if he uses Word then enable the show/hide icon, and then check printer/page-setup settings.
If the letters appear in all printing then ---- I havent a clue!

There may be s slight corruption in the driver.
Try deleting and re-installing the printer driver.

Thanks very much for these suggestions.
I had a feeling that this might be a driver-related problem.
I will go through these suggestions with my friend and report further.

Thanks again.
