Unwanted software opening at startup

I'm using Vista. My Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 photo downloader opens most times (but not every time) when I boot up my PC or wake it from sleep. It is listed under startup programmes in Windows Defender as 'Adobe Photo Downloader 3.0 Component', but I don't have the option to remove it. I don't need it 99% of the time I use my PC, and only want it to open when I ask it to. Any suggestions?

From RUN type in MSCONFIG, select startup. You can then un-select the programs you do not want to run at startup.
As an alternative , you can download starter.exe, which doies the same job, but with a more graphical interface.
