Unlock a hard disk?

  wossie 00:56 03 Nov 05

I was given a hard disk that is locked, and I want to format it and reinstall it in a laptop. Is there any way to unlock it, it was pasword protected and the person forgot the password. I don't know the O/S. Thanks, Wossie.

Run the drive manufacturers "zero disk" utility - this will return the drive to *ex-factory* status.

lock c: - This would lock the C: drive

When typing the above command you will receive the following prompt:

WARNING: The LOCK command enables direct access by programs
that can CORRUPT file names and/or DESTROY disk data, resulting in the
loss of files on your disk.

Are you sure (Y/N)?

unlock c: - This would unlock the C: drive

It is important to know that if errors occur indicating that a process such as fdisk or a setup of a new program or operating system occur indicating that the process cannot continue because the hard disk drive is locked that using the unlock command will resolve this issue.

Surely these commands are opposite ways about,eg:"The LOCK command enables" should read "The LOCK command DISABLES..."
