what does unknown format mean ? if i try to play games (played before)i get this message on a black screen!

This error message is displayed when encoding software cannot decode your source media file. For example if you attempt to encode a .gif image into a video. You may require a new codec - get the latest pack from here link text

It means that if the game worked okay before, and does not now work, Something on your drive either the game or a windows file as got corrupted. Try running System Restore to a Date when it worked. Look for BOLD dates
