Unknown folder has appeared

A folder has appeared in my root directory that I do not recognise and do not know where it came from. It is called “a92f28af02af7354aad6” and contains what seems to look like important files. According to the properties dialog it was created on the 27th February this year, but I do not recall doing anything important then.

Examples of file names that are in there are ntoskrnl and spuninst. From the names, these look like a kernel file and a program to remove a service pack but I am unsure. Can this folder be removed?

It seems I can uninstall it. I will try this and see if it works before I tick the box...
