uninstall vista from laptop

i have bought a laptop with vista premium
installed, and wish to install xp home instead
when i try reformat laptop it refuses stating
that it cant find the hard drive, i have original
xp disk its driving me potty trying to install
xp hope someone can help

If you want to load XP you will need all the XP Hardware Drivers for the Laptop from Manufacturers site first.

You will have to use a third party formatting tool to allow the computer to take XP. Use kill disk, click here. Use the free dos version and either put it on a flash drive or burn a disk.

Make sure you get those drivers first, as woodchip recommends.

A format will be no good as Vista writes to the Boot record on the Partition table. You have to delete the Partitions and start from fresh by creating a new one
