Problem: Computer will shut down w/o warning, no OS shutdown, jst power cut. Comp must be unplugged, turned off, power button pushed, replugged, then turned on before it will run again. happens multi times, no pattern. NOT heat related. New PS, tested w/o daughterboards except vid.
MB is ms - 6590, radeon 9550, crucial memory
comp shop has checked, no fix. any thoughts?

Does it do the same thing if you leave the PC at the BIOS screen for a while or only once you've loaded the OS?

I have no wish to hi-jack a thread but I have this problem and it does shut down at the Bios screen

  Skyver 23:55 17 Jan 06

Start a new thread...but just for the record, unplug all extraneous devices, if your machine still does it you need a new PSU.

New power supply in it. all extra cards / parts out of the machine. will shut down without warning even with a test install of XP on a secondary disk drive. hasn't shut down in bios only that I know of. Totally random shutdown / power loss. idle/full load/warm or cold will shut down, though it happens more often in the morning close to first powerup. power down is instant, without warning.

How about running it minus everything - video, memory, drives, ignore any POST beeps - if it still does it, the mobo or CPU is at fault. Also try dropping CPU speed/FSB/multiplier to minimum.

Does it need a BIOS update ? click here

Not unless you're entirely sure it will solve a documented problem, or it's already up to date of course.

If this computer is two to three years Old the Mobo may be suffering from faulty Capacitors. As a lot of board had that problem.

Check all connections even the mains plug before anything else
