Until recently the LiveUpdate feature on my old pre - installed version of Norton worked OK. Now when I try I get a message telling me I have lost my internet connection. This is not the case. Despite restarting computer it just gives same response. I have no disc but suspect the settings in Norton for my modem are now wrong. Any ideas anyone please ?

I used to have Liveupdate issues with 2002 (none so far with 2003). Check the FAQs on Nortons site. Mine was cured by reinstalling Liveupdate (a download from their site).

Thanks for responses. My version is an old pre - installed version 4.0 for windows 95. I am running windows ME and usually update manually via internet connection. I have no idea why it is suddenly playing up but did find a second duplicate modem shown as installed. One was on COM2 and one on COM 4. I deleted these and reinstalled .windows reinstalled on COM 4 Could this be the cause ? Or do I need a newer version now ?

If you have zone alarm installed try disabling it. same thing happened to me and it worked after disabling zone alarm.

Some of the older versions of Norton are showing their age, especially with the newer WIndows, and Liveupdate is no exception. You can now pick up Systemworks 2003 for £12 on Ebay. My advice is to start again.

Go for a newer version 2003 or 2004 you'll also get a years free updates.

You could use one of the free anti-virus programs that are continually being recommended on the forum.
