Unable to type into any program

This is a laptop with 1.6Ghz processor, 256MB RAM
and 40 gig h/drive. xp pro o/s. Cannot type into any prog. Device manager indicates that keyboard and drivers are saisfactory. Help required Please

Give us an example of a program you can't type into? MS Word? MS Works? MS Publisher? Wordpad? Notepad? etc...

uninstall keyboard and reboot, let xp reinstall hardware.

does it work now?

it wont let the keyboard operate on anyof the aforementioned i.e works,notepad anything

Does the keyboard work BEFORE you boot into windows?

Can you enter the BIOS by pressing the appropriate key (shown on first screen "press ? to enter setup)?

Have you got a standard desktop keyboard you could plug in and try? If not, can you beg, steal, or borrow one. They only cost about £5 new anyway.

Problem overcome by buyiny a new keyboard with USB connection. (cost £6) . Contemplated attempting to replace the keyboard on the laptop but decided it appeared a difficult and perhaps an expensive task.
