unable to remove files on partition

I have 2 drives C 20gig for os

The other drive is partitioned D data E backup and F films/photo's.

I decided to make a ghost image and save to E ;but made the mistake of cloning instead,so i ended up with loads of files on E , only having set C drive for system restore i was left with a load of files to delete; However was unable to delete them all.

Tried all ways to delete these files safe mode/ renaming and remove on reboot.

Can't seem to delete them anyway unless you know of a way.

Was thinking maybe i could just fomat E partition since there is nothing on there but these files. If so how should i do this to njust recover the one partition?
