Unable to open files.

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but can anyone help me please?. Lately, when I attempt to open an image file saved from a web page, I get the message "Unable to open file as do not know which program created it". I then get invited to select a program from a list. This never used to happen, but I don't know what I've done to cause this change. (I'm using XP) Probably simple, but I'm lost !!

Windows remembers which program opens which file type. If you install a program this info can be changed, and then if you uninstall the program, you can no longer open the file.

When you get the message to choose a program to open it with, just choose your graphics editor and Windows will automatically remember this next time.
