I'm trying to load Windows 98 onto a pretty old machine, with nothing on the hard drive (2.5 Gb); it has been formatted. When I run Setup off the CD it eventtually comes up with these three lines : Please wait while Setup initializesScanning system registry...Windows requires ******where the ****** consists of a largish number of bytes. What exactly does this mean? What's the minimum RAM needed? I think there's 32 Kb of RAM in the machine, which seems to be the maximum, since all 4 slots are filled with RAM.Can I get round this message?Should I load Windows 95 first and then try 98 on top of it?Cheers.
Think you mean 32 MB of RAM rather than KB. Minimum specs for 98 are 16MB > 32MB of RAM120-295MB of HDD space
WINDOWS SETUP REQUIRES LARGEST EXECUTABLE PROGRAM SIZE TO BE AT LEAST 442368 BYTES TO RUN ?? click here
Actually, I've found the answer - it's at Microsoft Knowledge Base Article, Number 300026.
