Unable to download anymore

Can anyone help me.When I try to download a file ( eg .pdf) which would use Adobe Acrobat I get the Real Download automatically and a message " your modem is not connected, would you like to dial up the internet? "

but I am ALREADY on the internet. If I answer yes, I get an AOL Dial on demand box asking for User Name and Password..If I fill this in I then get a Real Download Error "the port was disconnected due to hardware failure".I do not believe my modem is faulty.
Other times in a similar position I get the message "Can't find the phone book entry" what's this all about.
Thanking you in advance for some assistance.

have you tried reinstalling realdownload? It sounds like it isnt linking to AOL very well.
