Unable to delete files

Has anybody any idea why I can't delete some av files that are on my desktop?

I downloaded a load of movie trailers that I want to keep and have dropped them into a file off my desktop so as not to slow down boot up.

However, 3 only downloaded sound and they will not allow me to move, delete or do anything else for that matter other than re-assign from Windows Media Player to Real Player (even then though the icon remains the same), giving me the message that this file is being used. I have re-booted and disconnected from the Internet but to no avail. I'm using IE6 with XP.

you could try safe mode and deleting from there as they may be corrupt in some way? as a final check you could d/load vlc player from videolan and if that wont play them they are definately corrupt.
