Un able to access System Restore

  alexd99 03:20 05 Sep 09

I am running XP Pro SP2, I had a trojan attack that disabled my System Restore.
When I log on, I am greeted with the WIN NT Logging, and when I try to access restore I get the following message :
"System Restore has been turned off by group policy. To turn on System Restore, Contact your domain Adminstrator"
Please help.....

I assume your system is now clean but there is some residual damage. so if you have the Installation disc you could run sfc /scannow.

Try turning it on in Safe Node.

Failing that try 'Boot to last Known good configuration'.

(From a suggestion by Marg7 on another thread)

It is sometimes possible to run system restore if you can't run it from within windows.

On bootup choose safe mode with command prompt.
When it boots to the command promt type the following command

this will open the usual system restore window and you can search back for a restore point shown in bold.

A system file check should repair System Restore
Start/ Run/ type sfc /scannow and hit Enter.
You will need your XP CD which it will ask for.
This will replace any missing or corrupt system files.
No changes will be made to your data
