ubuntu query

I use wireless broadband
Package files are only downloaded if firefox is on
Firefox not on I get an error box, and each file says
Not found, is this as it should be?

Point of interest for ubuntu users.
I have ubuntu dual booted with XP, XP will not use onboard sound,
So have Sweex sound card fitted, XP uses Sweex sound,
Ubuntu does not reconise Sweex, but if I remove plug from Sweex and plug into onboard sound, Ubuntu uses that. I find that strange,

Re sound card

Have a look at one of the posts in here - see if it helps (you can't miss which one)

PS - which version of Ubuntu?

"XP will not use onboard sound,"

I expect it would if you got the correct motherboard sound drivers.

"Ubuntu does not reconise Sweex"

I expect it would if you get the correct driver

No - that's not normal. The package manager should normally make it's own connection with the web. It would be very odd if Firefox can connect to the web but package manager can't, as basically they both use the same way of connecting.

I don't think it is right, but in all honesty, I've no idea why it happens - sorry.

In reality, I suppose it's not really an issue, but it is strange.

Ubuntu will use the first sound source it finds. You can actually tell it to use the other source if you wish, providing it will work with the supplied drivers.
