Is Ubuntu Linux open-source?

Does anybody know if Ubuntu Linux is open-source? Just interested, but if it was, what would be the code language it would be written in?

Thanks for any suggestions.

The only non open source software in Ubuntu would be things like certain (graphics/wireless/printer) drivers, but these are usually downloads and not on the supplied cd.
