"Type the name of the command interpreter" - help!

  Tonycooper3 18:46 27 Jan 04

Windows won't start and when I try and start the computer using the the boot disk I have (so I can start the system restore tool from a command prompt), I don't get the startup menu, just the message "Type the name of the command interpreter (eg. c:\windows\command.com)

However, I can't get any further from this point. Any suggestions?

command.com should be on your startup disk so try a:\command.com
if its not there try to get another startup disk from someone.

this applies to Win9x not sure about XP but think it should be there.

If win 98 try booting from win98 CD. you will need to set in BIOS CD as 1st boot device.

Tried "a:\command.com" but nothing happens - I have used this start-up disk before, so I know it works, but will try and obtain another.
