two tone siren

  tosc 20:05 29 Jan 05

Can anyone tell me which application make a two tone siren sound when the pc has been idle for a while and how to stop it. Coming out of screensaver or starting task manager stops the sound. Sound is like old fashioned police siren. Thanks

Go to Control Panel\Sounds and remove the ones you do not need. Click the sound then scroll to none

PS in XP it's "Sounds and Devices\Sounds"

I should have pointed out the sound comes from the tower not the speakers. The tones only occur after screensaver kicks in and disappears with screensaver but not every time.

could be an overheat warning but would not expect during screen saver.

Please provide the following info:

What is your motherboard make+model & what BIOS (Award/Pheonix/AMI) does it have? What PC is it (if applicable) - make+model, & is it still under warranty? Also, did you install any new hardware recently? Did this start all of a sudden with no apparent reason, or has it been going on for long? G
