Two SATA Drives

  birdy11 16:55 08 Dec 08

Hi everyone,
I am thinking of fitting a second SATA drive.
Looking at the one already fitted I cannot see a plug to show which drive should be Master or Slave.
Is it possible to fit two SATA drives so I can use one as a back-up?
Grateful for any help at all.

There is no master or slave with SATA.

BIOS will look through the drives (starting with the first port) to find an operating system.

Just connect you second drive, if not already formatted use disk management to format and assign a letter if required.

I am in the process of fitting a second SATA drive, when it arrives. I have been led to believe that neither will be primary or slave? I think it will be allocated a drive letter. I have some further questions concerning this subject, but I will start a new thread

Thanks for the information, things are a lot clearer now.
The prompt reply was most appreciated.
