two blacks inks in a canon printer ?

hi, just ordered a new canon printer, just checking on the ink supplies, as far as i can tell is seems to have two black cartriges, been over the Canon site and i can not find out why, could someone tell me..............thanks

I've always assumed the bigger cartridge is for black text, and the one the same size as the coloured is for blacks in colour printing.

Can't remember what brand it was but there used to be a printer where you could substitute the colour cartridge with a high capacity black one to supplement the original black cartridge if you didn't intend to print in colour.
