How does your Sony recieve surround sound have you got built in satellite? if not you may as well just use phono out from the tv with stereo and a decent amp that does dolby pro logic 2 or the likes and there would be no advantage in buying a converter

hi eedcam my tv is connected to a goodmans 5.1 surround sound system by the way of phono leads but does not seem to be working correctly

I think that what eedcam is saying is that you should be connectiong your 5.1 amplifier to the source of the incoming audio
signal e.g. a Sky box or a dvd/BluRay player
