Tv Cards Inputs & Outputs

  flyhouse 21:20 12 Feb 06

Really confused by tv cards. I see most have inputs, but I would like to use my TV set as a monitor so that I can use my desktop as a media centre.

I hear I need a TV OUT. I guess with digital tv cards to have windows desktop displayed on a HD LCD TV there might be cards with HDMI Out/ Component / Optical OUT's, or a combination.

SO who produces cards with these new OUT connections? how much? and which are the best?

Generally what's the crack.

TV cards don't have the TV-out connection - it's the graphics cards that have them. Usually in the form of an s-vhs output.

If you have a newer, say LCD TV, that can handle monitor quality inputs, then then often have a standard monitor input too - so you just use the normal monitor connection, not a TV-out connection.

Unless you have a TV that is capable of monitor quality, then it's useless for standard computer work - though may be OK for playing DVDs.

There are not many articles in the computer magazines that explain the real basics. Cheers.
