Turning off Laptop running on Vista Home Basic

Hello friends, what's the real difference between "Hibernate" and "Shut Down" on a Laptop running Vista Home Basic? Is it Ok to turn off the laptop using "Hibernate" all the time? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Thanks.

Hibernate means that the laptop is still on Standby, just like a TV. Personally I never use hibernate, preferring to Shut-down properly each time.

You will still use battery power if you hibernate - not a lot - don't hibernate it if you are not going to use it for a few days.
