Someone suggested I should turn off my computers command to return a ping.

If I should disable this, why and how?

I am running XP with Service pack 2 if that is needed.

Thanks

You should be able to block that with your firewall, which one are you running?

I run Norton and have it all switched on but it tells me my system is still at risk on the threat scan due to it returning a ping response.

I'll give your link a go....

Computer hackers use what is known as "Pinging" to find potential victims on the Internet. By pinging a specific IP address and receiving a response from the IP address, a hacker can determine that something of interest might be there. Routers can typically be set up so they will not respond to an ICMP Ping from the outside. This heightens the level of security.
