Trying to install a new HDD

  GBL 13:34 27 Feb 05

I am attempting to change the HDD on a spare desk top PC, when I put in the replacement HDD I can't get it to boot up and instal Win XP, instead i immedialtely get the message NTLDR missing re-boot. Puzzled.

If I put the old drive back in then it is OK. But as this is only a 6gb i wanted to put a larger capacity one in, it is a pentium 3, but don't know anything else about it.

Make sure you boot from the windows XP CD.
You can then format the new drive from there.
Then install the XP.
The CD is a bootable CD

I did quite a bit of cursing and tinkering changed the cables several times then bingo.

So I don't know what exactly the probelm waas but seems to have got over that one, but now is says that the Plug and Play configueration has failed, mmmmmm XP seems to be loading OK.
