i use ie6 but would like to try another
browser. do i have to disable ie6 if so

No, you can run Opera,Mozilla,etc in tandem and simultaneously.

Not as far as I know but IE6 will be set as the default browser for a lot of file associations - in Win + E / Tools / Folder Options / File Types - and will - thru IE6 / Tools / Internet Options / Programs - check to see that IE6 is the default browser. You should be able to get your new browser to take back those options through similar paths.

Opera ( click here ) is easily set as the default browser by going to File/Preferences/Default browser and selecting the options you want. You should be aware that some web pages designed for IE do not display properly in Opera.

Another alternative is to use a browser which sits on top of IE and provides improved features such as a multi-tabbed interface and built-in pop-up stopper. My current favourite is CrazyBrowser, free from -
