On trusted sites - finding pornography in ad's

I don't know where to go for an answer to this. Several times, myself or my daughters, have been on safe, trusted sites (deseretnews.com, dictionary.com) and on the website in the place where normally an advertisement would be - is pornography. It's actually on the webpage not in a popup (I have a popup blocker). It does not happen with any regularity - just randomly. Need to know if the problem is with my laptop. I have McAfee home protection - have contacted them and they were useless in any answers. If anyone has any ideas as to why this is happening - and what I can do to prevent it - I would be most grateful.
