Trouble starting windows

My laptop wont start up. I get a black page saying windows was unable to start up (or something along them lines) then it's followed by a blue screen then followed by a black screen with boot options. Every boot option, apart from safe mode, restarts the error screens.

What is causing this. What can I do to fix this. And how can i prevent it from happening again?

Many thanks.

If you can actually boot into Safe Mode, do so and then run System Restore in Safe Mode back to a time when all was working correctly.

"how can i prevent it from happening again?"

If you could do that Microsoft you pay you a fortune :0)

Sometimes files get corrupted or drivers conflict when you add new hardware, software programs can also conflict hence a failure to reboot after an update of some sort.

If you cannot do a system restore try a repair, but we need to know the operating system (XP Vista W7) to adviso on how to do the repair.

If you have an original OS disc, or can borrow one, you could try a Repair.
