Trouble with DVD burning speed

  Rogerfredo 08:08 03 Aug 05

I have just bought a NEC 3540 DVD burner which is supposed to burn at "state of the art" high speeds. Even so, it will not burn the DVD-R discs I have which are x4, at any more than x2.
I have upgraded the Nero Express software to the latest available download.
The unit is at present on the same cable as an existing DVD burner (NEC 1300A) which used to be used with a Ricoh CD burner. The new unit is set as slave, and the older unit as master.
Could this be a problem?
Any advice gratefully received.

I purchased a pack of dvd's the other week, a bundle of 25 that were supposed to be X8. They would let me burn at X4 only. Bad media can cause all sorts of problems, try another brand.

After changing the 2 burners from master to slave (making the faster burner master), the problem is resolved. The 4x media actually burns now at 8x!
