Trouble adjusting brightness on screen - lenovo ideapad Z500 laptop

Hi. I have a new Lenovo ideapad Z500 laptop. At first only problem was me getting used to windows 8. However, having reduced the screen brightness I am unable to increase it at all. It is very dark but the indicator shows it to be at maximum brightness. Having gone through instructions, and tried everything I am at a loss. Have I missed something before I return this as faulty? Many thanks.

A late reply I know but try a reboot.

Thank you for your advice. I have tried this but I still have a dark screen that will not let me adjust it. Maybe I do need to get it exchanged. Anyone aware if this is a common problem or am I just (un) lucky?!

As it's a new machine I would return it. I think it's a driver problem but they should sort it out for you under warranty.
