Adaware, MS Antispyware, A², spybot,CCleaner, Spywareblaster, Spywareguard, AVG Free. Avast. The list is endless but all thos are good

AVG free, MS Antispy and a little common sense. Run Ccleaner weekly. No point in going OTT.

Microsoft is currently developing a rootkit scanner. Details at click here. It's some way off yet.

Related to this subject, Kaspersky Anti-virus has built-in ADS awareness.

There are not many products that claim to offer defence against rootkits.

That's about the only one that I know of, off the top of my head. Though it's a bit of a faff to use, judging by the article in PCW that mentioned it.
