AVG has detected this but cannot remove it. After doing a google search the general advice seems to be 'delete pup exe files uninstall windows media player and reinstall again'. I have removed the pup exe files but cannot find a way to uninstall wmp. Has anyone any suggestions.

Just delete the file - it is not a Windows file.
