Transferring VHS to DVD via PC

I would like to start transferring some of my VHS video collection to DVD but I'm not sure where to start.
Do I just buy a TV Card or a seperate video capture card. I'll probably want to hook it up to cable tv as well and record from that.
All advice welcome.

I have recently started doing this myself. I use an Adaptec USB capture device (about £70). I believe a PCI version will do the same job. There is no doubt It does work very well and excellent quality DVDs can be made, however the limitations I found are that it is a very time consuming process, recording in real time, editting out the rubbish and transfering to DVD. Also recording to HDD is limited to about 1hr at a time (something to do with file sizes). To be honest I wish I had waited as DVD/VHS combi machines are now more affordable.
