Hi,

I need to transfer data of from a Windows 98 system to an XPhome system using a cable via network cards!

So far i am at a loss of how to do this as i have tried every normal way of doing this from both systems with no results, im sure there is a reason why?

Is there any one who can point me in the right direction please?

Regards

Alan

Have a look in the XP Help & Support for "Files & Settings Transfer Wizard" which will do all that you want.

Go via Start...programs...accessories...system tools to 'Files & settings transfer Wizard'
I find the Help & Support route confusing !!
Have transferred files etc via serial cable connection on two PCs running WinXP
Not sure whether it works with one on Win98 but perhaps someone will confirm

If you're using a LAN cable, you need a Crossover cable, not a regular cable. This "crosses over" the output from one system to the input to the other, and vice versa.

I find the extra information (like confirming that it works W98 -> XP) given in the H&S route quite helpful.
