I want to transfer all data on a Windows 98SE pc to a new one running Windows XP Home. What is the best way - I do not have a cd writer or zip.

The easiest way is to take the hard drive from the 98 computer and install it in the XP computer and transfer your data that way.

Two ways which are possible, but not necessarily the best.

(1) Take the HD out of the old computer and temporarily attach to the new as a secondary drive so that you can copy data while running XP

(2) Buy a USB link connection ( < £30 including software) to plug in to both running computers and copy that way

You could buy a USB card reader and a 64meg card for about £20 from click here and swap the reader from one machine to another after copy your data to the card of course. I used this method for quite sometime without much hassle. Now I have two card readers and even less hassle, I use this system to take data to work.
