i have a toshiba satellite 1800s-814 and sometimes when i try to power it up the power light comes on and there is a click but that is all and i can not turn it back off using the power switch i have to remove ac adaptor and battery but sometimes it powers up fine

does anybody have any ideas what could be wrong.

not sure if this will help but I have a toshiba p100 and I use to never be able to turn it off by clicking the power button...until

I held down the power button for about 10 secs and low and behold the laptop switched off. It seems Toshiba don't subscribe to the 1/2 click rule and you have to hold down the button until it switches off

Not sure about the power up stuff though
