Toshiba Satellite laptop non-starter

Briefly - this Tosh Satellite 2800 was fine, then one morning it wouldn't start. On pressing the button, the power led would light and the floppy drive would kick then all silent. On removing the additional RAM soDimm it starts up as normal. Great! I thought, faulty RAM - replaced it and back to dead :(
Am I looking at a cream-crackered motherboard?

Perhaps it's the original RAM module that's faulty - but only when accompanied by a second one.

Also it might be the RAM connctor. Try each RAM module on it's own, in the original connector slot.

Also be sure to remove the battery before changing RAM modules.

Sadly DieSse, the primary memory is on the motherboard. There is only one memory 'slot' and that is the one I have just emptied. I have a bad feeling about this one...

See if you can find a friend, or local shop, to test the two modules for you. It could be just extreme bad luck that you have two faulty ones.
