anyone any ideas...i have a 4 yr old toshiba ea60 laptop, which after being so reliable has suddenly started shutting down virtually when it powers up. within seconds of pressing on button it just shuts down.

is it terminal!!!!!!!

Muck build up on the Heatsink that cools the CPU. only way to do it right is for it to be partly striped down, and cleaned. Using on carpets and soft furnishing plus smoking also bad for computers and humans

Battery or power supply dead or if it does it with both could be MOBO...

makes no diff if battery in or out.....just dies

Muck will still do that

My Tosh did this last month, there's a thread somewhere.

Not exactly terminal but it was the mobo and the cost of spares`was more than a new machine, even without labour charges.
