Toshiba DVD/ CD-Rom Drive

Can anyone suggest a resolution to a problem with the modular drive on my fiance's laptop?

Recently, the drive has refused to read CD-Roms. When inserted the drive starts to spin, and there is usually some form of recognition (the name of the disc appears in 'My Computer' correctly, but it won't auto-run).

Thereafter nothing except high pitched squeaks if you try and access the drive. None of the files are accessible.

Have tried re-installing the driver and also bought a drive cleaning disc from PCW. All to no avail.

Before I try Tosh (out of warranty), I thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas here.

Thanks in advance.

I think you will have to buy a new drive. When I had trouble with a cd drive also tried various cleaning stuff, but in the end I just got a new drive and all returned to normal.
