Toolbar that won't go away

  kinger 21:12 18 Sep 05

A friend has got a toolbar appearing at the bottom of his Internet Explorer window.

I can't remove it as I can any other 'normal' toolbar as it doesn't show up in any settings.

I don't know who makes it so don't know how to uninstall it. Add remove doesn't list it.

Here is a descripiton of it just in case anyone of you can identify this menace.

It runs on Windows XP second edition, looks like an MSN skin.

It has heading on the left hand side: Make Money / Music / Casino / Investing / Travel / Mortgage.

Options in the middle of the bar include adult sites which is annoying as children use the computer. The list includes: Dating, singles, etc..

Finally, there is a search box with a 'Go' button.

Can anyone tell me what it is and, more importantly, how to permanently remove it?

Many thanks.

If it's Windows xp SP2, then have a look under Tools> Manage Add-Ons.

The Toolbar should appear in the list- disable it.

Post any info in the List here.

Also, try this click here

If these all fail, goto RUN and enter MSCONFIG ,check the start menu and if you see a program you do not reconise, unclick it (not anti-virus or firewalls). You could also try going to RUN and entering REGEDIT, open software and search that, BUT be very careful what you remove as you can easily make your machine un-usable.

Thanks Terry. I will visit friends computer tomorrow and try out the above.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone. I'll let you know how things go.
