Tiscali router connection problems

  MeteorDS 13:28 19 Oct 06

I recently purchased an additional HP Laptop computer and Belkin ASDL modem with wireless router to connect to my existing Desktop computer.
I have disconneted and removed the Tiscali supplied Sagem modem and connected the wireless router to my desktop. The desktop and laptop are networked via the wireless router and all works OK. The Belkin router has been configured as per the instructions on the Tiscali web site.
However there now appears to be a conflict between the tiscali dial up requirement of the sagem modem software and the connect facility required by the Belkin router resulting in the computer not being able to connected to the tiscali broadband service. This results in a error 678 - the computer you are dialing into is not answering.
However if I click onto the Internet explorer on my new laptop it seamlessly connects to the tiscali broadband service with no problems albeit the e-mail sevice will not connect and times out BUT I can surf the net.

If you are connecting to the internet via a router, any software previously installed for use with a USB modem should be uninstalled, otherwise it can cause problems with your internet access.

Also, in Internet Explorer's menus, "Tools > Internet Options" you should select Never Dial a Connection.

Uninstalled tiscali sagem modem software and this resolved the connection problems. However I cannot access my Tiscali email account through either outlook or outlook express. Whenever I click on send and receive on either of the above programs a dial-up box appears which has none of the fields filled in i.e. user name, password etc. any ideas?

Open "Internet Explorer" and, in its menus, go to "Tools > Internet Options". Click the Connections tab and make sure you have selected "Never Dial a Connection".
